Too Good To Go
At the end of 2021 we took action towards reducing our food waste at Hoogah by using Too Good To Go - a mobile platform started in 2015 in Denmark, with the aim to reduce the amount of food going in the bin at the end of the day at restaurants and cafes.
We decided to undergo this action due the inevitability of food waste within the hospitality industry, no matter how hard we try to reduce waste we cannot predict human behaviour and some weeks are quieter than others, leading to food waste.
On days that we would otherwise throw away food that is still good to eat, instead of feeding the bin we now put ‘magic bags’ for sale on the Too Good To Go App. There are options for vegan, veggie and mixed bags that hold up to £13.50 worth of Hoogah treats from £4.50!
From our freshly made hummus, cheeses, our slow cooked beef and pork, pizza sauce that can be used to make your own pizza at home or stirred in with some pasta! You may even score yourself some toasties or pizzas!
One-third of food produced globally goes to waste. The UK throws away 9.52 million tonnes of food per year, this emits 25 million tonnes of CO2e.
We produce enough food across the world to wipe out global hunger – but one-third of it goes to waste. That’s 1.3 billion tonnes of food thrown away.
If that food was given to chronically undernourished people, we would have enough to provide them with 10 meals per day, every day.
If you’d like to help us reduce our food waste at Hoogah then download the Too Good To Go App and keep an eye out for whenever we drop any magic bags!
