Changing Futures’ project - Leonard Cheshire

Hello - Let’s start by introducing myself!

I’m Georgia and up until very recently I’ve been at Hoogah alongside Gareth under the ‘Changing Futures’ project run by Leonard Cheshire. Changing Futures is available to those above the age of 18 in Swansea, Bridgend and Neath/Port Talbot with health conditions or limitations and aims to assist people into work while developing essential skills and workplace experience.

From a caffeine fuelled trek up Pen Y Fan, trying to catch sunrise at the peak for charity, trips to Coal Town HQ in Ammanford for Barista training. In house bar and mixology training along with various staff ‘Hygge Days’ it’s been very much a high point in my life.

I’ve been able to gain skills and knowledge in so many different areas I could have never imagined - I’ll talk your ear off about coffee!

My primary role during the placement was ‘Hygge Host’ which meant I was tasked with greeting, seating, taking orders from and accommodating customers to the best of my abilities.

This was my first ever leap into any workplace environment

and while there’s been a lot to adjust to - I can honestly say that these have been the best four months of my life and it was made all the better to have such a lovely and awesome team to work with.
